FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is counseling, and why should I consider going?

Counseling is a therapeutic process where a trained professional helps individuals explore and address personal, emotional, or mental health concerns. It provides a safe, confidential space for self-reflection, healing, and growth. You might consider going to counseling if you're facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, or relationship issues and want to get to the root of why you are showing up to relationships in an unhelpful manner. Seeking counseling can offer valuable insights and awareness, resulting in a healthier relationship with God, yourself, and others.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a proven neurologically based therapeutic technique first developed by psychologist Francine Shapiro several decades ago. It makes new connections in the brain about a traumatic event by using bilateral stimulation, a process similar to the brain’s Rapid Eye Movement cycle (REM). In using the traumatic event coupled with BLS, clients can reprocess the event and all its associations, decreasing the disturbance and integrating it into the brain.

What is IFS?

Internal Family Systems developed by Richard Schwartz in the 1980’s, is a research-based base model used to understand different aspects of ourselves. Similar to having our own families with different individuals with their own unique personalities Schwartz suggested that our internal family system is also made up of different parts. He called these parts managers (protectors, firefighters) and exiles. Therapy aims to create a cooperative and trusting relationship between the God Self and each part.
